Cortical dynamics and biomechanics

چکیده

Movement generation is the complex result of the interaction between viscoelastic properties of muscle, inertial properties of the musculo-skeletal system and spatial trajectory planning. The Equilibrium Hypothesis (EP) may simplify the control of complex biomechanical model. It however do not solve a priori the problem of trajectory planning and on-line control of speech movements. The control of biomechanical models from phonetic input thanks EP control principles is still an open question. This paper claims for a dynamic cortical planning process interacting with the biomechanical plant.

A Common Structure Underlies Low-Frequency Cortical Dynamics in Movement, Sleep, and Sedation

Upper-limb movements are often composed of regular submovements, and neural correlates of submovement frequencies between 1 and 4 Hz have been found in the motor cortex. The temporal profile of movements is usually assumed to be determined by extrinsic factors such as limb biomechanics and feedback delays, but another possibility is that an intrinsic rhythmicity contributes to low frequencies i...

Influence of cortical canal architecture on lacunocanalicular pore pressure and fluid flow.

Bone is a dynamic tissue that undergoes structural modification in response to its mechanical environment, but how bone cells sense and respond to loading conditions remains incompletely understood. Current theories focus on strain-induced fluid flow for the primary means of mechanotransduction. To examine the influence of age-related cortical rarefaction on lacunocanalicular fluid characterist...

Mechanical behavior measurement of the sheep small intestine using experimental tests

Background: There is no consistent data on the mechanical properties of sheep intestine. OBJECTIVES: We performed a series of biaxial strain measurement experiments and extracted the constitutive model to describe the mechanical characteristics of the sheep intestinal tissue. METHODS: Eleven specimens were obtained freshly from sacrificed  sheep and the planar biaxial tests were performed on th...

Dynamics, Stability Analysis and Control of a Mammal-Like Octopod Robot Driven by Different Central Pattern Generators

In this paper, we studied numerically both kinematic and dynamic models of a biologically inspired mammal-like octopod robot walking with a tetrapod gait. Three different nonlinear oscillators were used to drive the robot’s legs working as central pattern generators. In addition, also a new, relatively simple and efficient model was proposed and investigated. The introduced model of the gait ge...
